The Red Tape Track is a popular mountain biking trail located in Whareroa Farm, just north of Paekākāriki on the Kāpiti Coast.
In total it is approximately 5.55 km (3.3 km uphill via the Link Track and 2.25 km downhill on the Red Tape Track). It's an intermediate track, suitable for riders with some experience. Families with older kids (8+ with biking skills) may also enjoy it.
The trail has a mix of gravel and earth, with flowing downhill sections, bumps, and creek crossings. Expect stunning views of the valley, Kāpiti Island, and the coastline, with opportunities to spot native birds and late-summer wildflowers like dahlias.
The Link Track offers a steady climb with gentle grades and scenic views, leading to the Five Ways lookout, a perfect spot for a picnic.
The downhill Red Tape Track is purpose-built, featuring flowing loops, bumps, and bridges over most stream crossings. It’s a rewarding ride for those seeking adventure.
The trail runs through reforested areas and past remnants of a WWII American Marine camp, highlighting the area’s history and conservation efforts.
