This December, Visit Kāpiti is your hub for all things Christmas, bringing together festive events, local celebrations, and this year’s community-created Lights Trail. Two incredible volunteer groups have helped shape this year’s maps, the trail showcases the creativity, generosity, and sparkle of homes, businesses, and neighbourhoods across the district.
Cosy up, hop in the car, and make a night of it.
This December, Visit Kāpiti is here to help you find all the Christmas magic happening across our district — twinkling homes, festive shopfronts, late-night shopping, markets, and all the little moments that make Kāpiti feel extra special. We’re sharing links to both of the community-created Christmas Lights Maps so you can explore both!
Whether you're packing the kids into the car, heading out for a Christmas date night, or just wandering around your neighbourhood with a hot chocolate in hand, this guide helps you find what’s happening and where. And with two great community maps to choose from, there’s no wrong way to do a Christmas lights adventure in Kāpiti.
Both of this year’s community-created Christmas Lights Maps are now live and ready to explore. We’ll be sharing highlights, giveaways, and everything festive over on Visit Kāpiti’s Instagram and Facebook.
1. Register your display
Homes, businesses, and community groups can share their lights or festive activities, so we can help promote them across our Christmas content.
2. Explore the lights
Once the maps are live, we’ll share links to both of the community-created Christmas Lights Maps so you can explore both! Each map will show different displays, neighbourhoods, and Christmas highlights across the coast.
3. Plan your night out
Whether you’re heading out for a family adventure, a Christmas date night, or a relaxed wander, you can use the maps (and our Christmas event listings) to plan a route that suits your evening.
4. Share the magic
Got great photos? We’d love to see them. Tag @VisitKapiti with #KapitiChristmasTrail and you could be featured on our page and go in the draw for spot prizes.
5. Support local
From Christmas markets and late-night shopping to festive treats and decorated businesses, this season is full of ways to support the people who make Kāpiti shine.
